Mum's Spaghetti - Brisbane is back again hosting another line-up of tasty bands. Come party with your best mates you haven't met yet at Black Bear Lodge to the sounds of WHARVES, Video Avenue and Captain Squidlicker & The Sinking Ships.
"If Foals and City Calm Down collaborated it'd probably sound something like this."
Dom Alessio – Triple J
Since their 2015 inception, the band have continually released critically adored songs, with strong support from the likes of triple j Unearthed, community radio and worldwide tastemaker blogs. In the live arena, WHARVES have performed at the 2016 Byron Bay leg of Falls Festival and supported some of the countries most loved indie acts including Polish Club, Morning Harvey and The Delta Riggs.
In July WHARVES won the Triple J unearthed spot to open the 2017 Splendour in the Grass on the main stage as well as playing Bigsound Festival last year.
With flavours of Arctic Monkeys, The Wombats and a sprinkle of Aussie rock, Video Avenue are a 4 piece Indie Rock band fresh in the Brisbane scene teaming up with string sticks blessed by the twang gods and skin cylinders possessed by groove.
Captain Squidlicker & The Sinking Ships
It's been nothing but smooth sailing for Byron Bay band, Captain Squidlicker & The Sinking Ships since first emerging from the coastal town just last year in 2017. Playing shows at bars, bowls clubs and breweries while supporting the likes of Hobo Magic and The Gooch Palms along the way.

Following the release of their recent single "Reassurance", Melbourne electro-quartet The Harpoons have announced they're hitting the road in early 2018 on a celebratory East-coast tour, presented by Purple Sneakers.
Tix on sale now:
Kicking off at Brisbane's beloved Black Bear Lodge on Thursday February 22, The Harpoons will then head south, bringing their exhilarating live set to Sydney's iconic Lansdowne Hotel on Friday February 23, before wrapping up with a hometown party at Melbourne's Howler on Saturday March 3. If their recent mind-blowing Melbourne Music Week set is anything to go by, you won't want to miss these shows.
Released on Caroline Australia and premiering via Complex UK & BBC Radio's Future First Playlist, "Reassurance" is the band's homage to UK garage following a 3 month stint living, writing and recording in London; exploring its tiny basement clubs, janky jazz bars and fried chicken culture. Since its release, the track has earned Beat Mag's 'Single of the Week', has received "full marks" from Purple Sneakers for its "jittery and syncopated club sound" as well as radio play across Australia and beyond.
"Reassurance" follows on from the screaming diva moment of "Do You Want My Love" which premiered via Rolling Stone earlier this year and was their debut release on label Caroline Australia. One of this year's most welcome releases, the track shot to international acclaim, premiering via Los Angeles radio giants KCRW and UK tastemakers Clash Magazine. The song also garnered local support from i-D, Triple J, FBi Radio and Triple R peaking at #13 on the Spotify Australia Viral 50 Charts. The release was followed by three standout sets at Brisbane's BIGSOUND and two single launches in Sydney and Melbourne, selling out their hometown in pre-sales.... See MoreSee Less
To celebrate the release of her debut album I'm Dreaming (Feb 9, 2018), featuring the singles 'Touch', 'Almost Here', 'Get Me A Drink' & 'Be Friends', Alice Ivy is embarking on a not-to-be-missed Australian national tour with an inimitable collection of supports.
On Friday February 23 the tour pulls into Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane with support from Nasty Mars & Keelan Mak.
In her own words, "I’m Dreaming is an album that was written to be listened to from start-to-finish. For me the album is the sum of it’s parts as well as something that I intentionally crafted to be transferable into a live setting. Each individual track is a rich a collage of sounds that in some cases took shape over a period of many months. Sounds that I played or created in my home-studio, captured with a zoom recorder while travelling abroad or laid down in hotel rooms and Air BnB’s while on the road. I guess you could say this album is a sonic pastiche of the last two years of my life and my first two years of being Alice Ivy."

For the 5th edition of Live At The Lodge we're heading out to the desert were things are sparse, gritty and the nights last forever.
We'll be launching Johnny Cyrus and His Band of Ghosts.' dark Australiana epic 'Longevity I' as well as pulling The Francis Wolves out of album #2 writing hibernation to break the spell of jive canyon's hypnotic folk-jazz meanderings.
FREE ENTRY • Doors at 7pm
Johnny Cyrus and His Band of Ghosts. is a loose association of like minded musicians specialising in what they can only call "Cowboy Drone" - Dark Americana played by Shoegazers with a strong focus on Drone (repetition), Minimalism, Improvisation and Entering Trance State. There is a very Ambient feel. This is natural since the band prefers to focus on atmosphere in preference to music.
The Francis Wolves are an 8-piece instrumental funk juggernaut from Brisbane, Australia. It’s true, The FW’s ain’t your typical suit wearing funk band: their style is a melting pot of genres, delivered via an ‘all in’ fuzzed out wall-of-sound. Ferocious horns and a brooding rhythm section, matched by ominous organ and infectious congas will transport you to a Sergio Leone film set by way of the dance-floors of Africa.
The Francis Wolves’ debut album graciously tips its hat to The Budos Band, Fela Kuti, The Stooges, Dick Dale and even The B-52’s. Producer Donovan Miller (FOREVR/No Anchor) captured the raw sounds of The FW’s in the studio, producing 33 tight minutes of grimy, sweat-inducing grooves that will leave you loose and wanting more.
Soundtrack music for an abstract world..
jive canyon insists the most important part of playing is Listening... and although the music they create stems from the free activity of rigorous & adventuring minds... When the tape starts rolling, or the curtain goes up, it’s time to take the thinkin' caps off and simply be One Big Ear...
Having played select Venues (junk bar, woolly mammoth, the haunt, beetle bar, common house, milk factory, menagerie) and various House Shows, jive canyon has developed a live set built upon hypnotic, rhythmic explorations that transfigure the more potent and primitive elements of jazz, folk, blues, rock’n’roll & minimalism.

Rare Finds are proud to announce rising stars Future Jr. and MOZA as the next headliners of their East Coast touring circuit in March – presented by Oporto and Pilerats, and supported by Mountain Goat Beer, Arthur St. Studios and Sailor Jerry.
Future Jr. is the sonic tapestry forged by new Brisbane-based artist, Matthew Nainby. Since his inception in late-2017, the musician has been strongly embraced by the likes of NME, The Line of Best Fit, Neon Gold, DIY, Zane Lowe / Beats 1 and The 405. With a swag of Spotify 'New Music Friday’s' and Apple Music ‘Best of the Week’s’ in his pocket, his recently released single ‘Tell Me That I’m Wrong’ was featured via Complex and High Snobiety in their ’10 New Artists to Discover this Week’ column.
Joining him on headlining duties are Sydney-based indie-electronic duo, MOZA, who have also recently revealed their new single ‘Gold’, which has already received support from Spotify, Apple Music, MTV, triple j, FBi and Pilerats. The group have traversed the countryside multiple times alongside heavyweights Just a Gent, Paces, Kilter, Touch Sensitive, Hayden James and performed at Wonderland Warehouse Project curated by Alison Wonderland.

Globe trotting troubadour Carus Thompson has done it the hard way. Independent, with no commercial radio play, self-managed and funded he’s toured the world alongside The John Butler Trio, The Waifs, Xavier Rudd, Jack Johnson & Pete Murray, selling over 30,000 albums along the way.
He’s won his loyal fan base through 20 years of hitting the road, one punter, one gig, one tour at a time, always delivering passionate, energetic, folk-rocking shows that entertain and engage.
It’s fitting that in support of his new single and video clip “Starved Myself Pretty” - a sharp, succinct and emotive comment on shows like X factor – he’s heading out around the country in solo mode. No tricks, no backing, just one man, a guitar and his songs. The anti-thesis of the commercial, mainstream, corporate and exploitive approach that the reality music shows take.
This is the third and final tour for his lauded ISLAND album, before he takes a break to start writing for album number seven. Don’t miss one of this countries finest pub-rock acoustic singer-songwriters.

HEAPS GOOD FRIENDS are stoked to announce they’re hitting the road for a national tour (yes, even Perth!) across March and April in support of their forthcoming debut EP Hug Me. The Hug Me EP features their new disco banger ‘I Could Eat a Full Packet of Yo Yo’s’, the widely loved singles ‘Let’s Hug Longer’ and ‘Olympic Sneakers’ and will be out on March 2 through the band’s own label, distributed by Kobalt/AWAL.

Oh Mercy hit the road throughout April to celebrate the release of their highly anticipated 5th studio album ‘Café Oblivion’, released through EMI on March 9.
Alex Gow, the Melbournian man behind the ARIA Award winning Oh Mercy has established the name as an iconic Australian act. ‘Café Oblivion’ affirms the whispers, Gow is certainly one of the country’s most accomplished, interesting and interested songwriters. A student of The Triffids, Paul Kelly and The Go-Betweens, album by album, Gow has managed to forge his own musical legacy.
Whereas 2015’s ARIA Award-winning ‘When We Talk About Love’ spoke of love, loss and longing, ‘Café Oblivion’ revels in the psychedelic imagery or lovers, villains, Gods, Australian sporting personalities and marsupials alike. It features songs set in Everest, in Sri Lanka, Abbotsford cafes, Nashville bars, post-apocalyptic landscapes and a 1980s Italian TV set. It is above all things playful.
Café Oblivion unfurls to reveal a wondrous and charming landscape. One unlike Oh Mercy has produced before. So, grab a table by the window where pathos and ecstasy share a schooner under the 67th of 350 signed prints of Steve Smith. As the world gets crazier, Gow just keeps getting better....
